COACHING SPECIALTIES

Dr. Katherine's Story

Prior to entering into private practice back in 2006, Dr. Katherine held a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Psychology at Rowan University.  It was there that her deep passion for working with children, adolescents, and their families was truly solidified.  She founded her private practice on the principles of compassion, inner peace, balance, and integrity to work with children, young adults, and their parents.  Her work has included individual therapy, couples therapy, marriage counseling, and family therapy.  She is a consultant for the State of New Jersey's Department of Child Protection and Permanency (DCP&P), Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). and the Rutgers University Institute for Families.

The work was extremely fulfilling, and she found that those families open to learning and practicing mind-body techniques reached their goals more efficiently.  Dr. Katherine also found that the progress made was long lasting.

It just then had to happen – a deeper dive into the fascinating connections between brain, body, and behavior.  Always fascinated by the field of health and wellness, Dr. Katherine chose to work under Marc David, Founder of the Institute for the Psychology of Eating, to become a Mind-Body Wellness Coach.

Her vision in pursuing this type of coaching certification was to equip herself with what she needed to be effective in launching a campaign aimed at helping women and men navigate the minefield of the negative images about food, weight, and diet that we all encounter everyday; educating women and men on how what we’ve been told about being willpower weaklings is all wrong; and empowering women and men to take charge of their nutritional life by ditching diets and walking away from all the conflicting advice we often hear from nutrition experts.

As a Mind-Body Wellness Coach, Dr. Katherine specializes in food and body image issues.  She effectively addresses weight concerns, binge eating, overeating, compulsive eating, body image challenges, and various nutrition related health concerns. She eliminates the “shoulds and shouldn’ts”.  She focuses on what’s right for your body and your personal style. She never uses strategies of restriction that are surely punishing.  She uses strategies that nourish and that are truly freeing and empowering.

Dr. Katherine continues to actively provide her services as a licensed psychologist.  She is now also providing her powerful mind-body wellness coaching services in both individual and group formats.  She is honored to have a diverse clientele with some choosing to enter into a psychotherapy relationship while others choose to enter into a coaching relationship with her.

When not providing her psychological or coaching services, Dr. Katherine can be found teaching several fitness classes a week at several of the local fitness facilities.  She is a Certified Schwinn Indoor Cycling Instructor and a Certified PLYOGA Instructor.  She also teaches several kids fitness classes.
